How do you define a nice evening? Is it going out with friends? Maybe sitting at home relaxing in front of the TV? Perhaps something more energetic, like an evening run, or walking your dog? Anymore it’s the simple things that do it, at least for myself. Tonight was one of those simple evenings where everything just felt…right.
I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to get to the gym, take a run, or ride my mountain bike. So I decided when I left work today that I was going to get outside and do something active. When I got home, I changed out of my khaki’s and into my gym shorts. I decided I would take Zoe out for a bike ride. So we headed out and away we went. It wasn’t a long ride, but it was truly enjoyable. Zoe and I laughed and sang goofy, made-up songs the entire time.
When we returned home, Cameron and his buddy Alex had returned from the pool. They grabbed their baseball mitts and headed out back to have a catch. Zoe and I decided to follow, except we’d play basketball instead. So Zoe, being only six-years-old, dribbled the ball around and passed it to me to make the basket. This continued for nearly an hour before Anna called us all in for supper.
All of us gathered around the table; laughing, shoving food in our faces, and talking about our day. It was the perfect ending to a very long work day – and like I said, it was nothing exciting, but a very fine evening nonetheless.
