We broke ground on our new house 7 weeks ago. So much has happened since that ground breaking day. In seven short weeks they’ve excavated the ground and poured the foundation. They’ve framed up the entire house and installed all the windows and doors, and they’re about to shingled the roof.
Anna and I have had [...]

So what is APE-MAN? It’s a six letter acronym that stands for something like AEGON-Procend-Employees-Minus-Marti-And-Northlight. Clear as mud, right? Well I used to work at Procend, as did another friend of mine, Neal. Now both Neal and myself work for AEGON. Neal and I with our families, along with Karen and Karl (both of Procend) [...]
windows, stairs, and more

It’s only been a couple of days, but the contractor doing the framing has been very busy. We now have all the windows in the house. Literally, all the windows were installed in a day – very impressive, and that was just yesterday. Today they put in the roughed in staircase to the basement, finished [...]

Ah, it’s my favorite season of the year…FOOTBALL season! I guess that’s just one more reason I enjoy Fall so much. Football season means getting together with friends, drinking some good beer, and eating some awesome tailgating favorites – like brats, burgers, chili, chips w/ salsa…the list goes on and on. This is probably why [...]

The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance.

If only McCain, Palin, and GW followed this logic. Instead, I feel they are more ignorant than knowledgable, as are many of their supporters (many, not all).

raise the roof

It’s been roughly 2 weeks since the framing of the new house started, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress the framers have made. The most exciting thing for us so far has been the raising of the roof. As some of you know, we’re building a prairie style home, and the roof pitch [...]
framing day 3-and-a-half

I say 3-and-a-half because the framers really didn’t have 4 days of solid nice weather to work. We’ve been getting some serious rain today, and a little yesterday. Still, these guys are amazing. I can’t believe how quickly they’re able to put the frame of the house together. From what I understand, they plan to [...]
framing, day 2

It looks like day two of framing was productive. The garage and main floor are starting to take shape, and the basement appears to be coming along quite well. I think we’re expecting rain around here tomorrow, but if we’re lucky, it will hold off most of the day. I think they’ll have the main [...]

framing, day 1

They started framing up the new house today. I stopped by and took a couple quick pictures for everyone to see. As you can see, nothing too exciting, but it’s starting to take shape. If all goes well, and the weather cooperates, the house should be framed in roughly 2 weeks.
So from here, it looks [...]
